Gemstones are precious or semi-precious stones, durable enough to be carved, polished and cut to create beautiful jewellery pieces. To determine the quality of gemstones, we examine how light is transmitted or reflected from their surface. Gems have differing levels of transparency, brilliance and lustre.

As a general measure of their quality and to determine their price, our gemstones are graded using the 4Cs, colour, clarity, cut and carat (weight or size). The 4Cs play a pivotal role in valuing diamonds and gemstone jewellery. 

Generally speaking, the brighter and more intense colour of a gemstone increases its value. Colourless diamonds are highly valued. However, diamonds with tints of pink or blue are rare and are often more valuable.
